The municipality of Talisay is located in Batangas Province on the Philippine island of Luzon, about 84kms south from Manila. It is the base for those who wish to get to the spectacular Taal Lake and Volcano Island.
Talisay has recently developed into a resort town thanks to the stunning panorama and direct access to the lake and volcano. Many resorts have mushroomed in the town, fitting a wide variety of budgets.
The third largest lake in the Philippines, Taal Lake is uniquely set within a caldera created by extremely large eruptions between 100,000 and 500,000 years ago. It is an excellent breeding ground for tilapia as well as tawilis, the only freshwater sardine in the world.
Taal Lake circles Volcano Island, featuring the active Taal Volcano which is the reason for the lake’s sulfuric content.
Taal Volcano is one of the country’s 22 active volcanoes and the world’s smallest of its kind. It was thought to be labeled ‘a volcano inside a volcano’ since many believe that Taal Lake was once a mouth of a volcano. Regular tours are available taking visitors across the lake to the island and on horseback to the top of the volcano, while the more adventurous traveler can experience a different high by hiking to the crater lake.
Getting There & Away
Board a Batangas City bound bus (via Tanauan, not via Clabarzon) on Taft Avenue in Pasay City, Manila, and later change to a Talisay-bound jeep. You can also take a Nasugbu-bound bus and get off in Tagaytay, from where a jeep transfers you to Talisay, passing through the winding route down Tagaytay ridge, a trip not appropriate for the faint of heart. Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International _Airport is 70kms away from Talisay. _
