Taijiang is a small county town in eastern Guizhou, about 40kms to the east of Kaili on the G320. It lies in an area of meadows and grasslands and is surrounded by numerous ethnic minority villages.
Taijiang itself is a typical ethnic village up in the hills which features traditional houses and lots of weaving and folk songs. Hongyang village, near Mount Leigong, is surrounded by virgin forest and lies at 1,700m. It has good hiking and sublime views down the mountain.
Also worth a look is Fanpai at 26kms from Taijiang. It is also a Miao village and similar to those in Taijiang, while Lower Langde and Upper Langde are southeast of Kaili. Meanwhile, the village of Longli is southwest of Kaili and known for its terraced fields.
Getting There & Away
Taijiang is about 100kms east of Guiyang on the G320 and is accessible by bus via Kaili, three hours all up. Trains also run to Kaili from the provincial capital in about two hours. Guiyang Longdongbao Airport is the closest to Taijiang; a 3-hour flight from Beijing.

Not far southeast of kaili, on the road to leishan and also at the foot of mount leigong, is this fun village where visitors are welcomed with rice wine.

The miao celebrate this important festival in march with the eating of the sister’s meal and drinking of rice wine, along with the banging of drums and dancing.
