This footbridge was built in 1982 to celebrate the Bangkok bicentennial. Ironically, that year also marks the bicentennial of the demise of King Taksin, Tak’s local hero, who moved the capital of Siam to Thonburi, after which it was moved across the river to Bangkok by Rama I.
The bridge is a good spot to visit in the evening when it is illuminated, and there are often fine sunsets over the hills to the west of town. Otherwise it’s a good spot for a bit of exercise (as it’s 400meters long), to gaze down over the river or to get a bit of fresh air.
Another reason to visit in the evening is that lots of food stalls selling all kinds of goodies set up along the road beside the bridge from about 6pm.
