Situated on the border of Changning and Jiangan, the Sunan Bamboo Sea covers an area of 120 square kilometers.

For those who enjoy hiking and trekking, the Sunan Bamboo Sea should be top of the itinerary. Situated at an elevation of 600 to 1,000 meters, it takes about two days to trek through this area, allowing plenty of time to take advantage of the natural beauty.

Along the way visitors to this area will be able to pause for breath in one of the thousands of bamboo shelters. There are also plenty of historic relics here and points of interest such as the Bamboo Sea Museum, which contains an extensive collection of fish fossils and plenty of local information.

The easiest way to navigate this area is to book a tour with one of the local companies. There will be a guide available to lead the way through lush bamboo forests, up mountains, through karst caves and along rivers. The area is rich in history and most guides are quite knowledgeable. Most tours include basic accommodation and provisions for the journey through the Sunan Bamboo Sea.

Getting There & Away

Getting to Sunan Bamboo Sea is a bit tricky. The best way is to fly into the international airport at Chengdu and then take a bus to Yibin (2 hours). There are regular buses from Yibin to Sunan Bamboo Sea (15 minutes). There are also buses to Yibin from other towns and villages in the area.
