Located in the Rocky mountains of Idaho state, Sun Valley is a longtime popular ski resort at an elevation of 1,800 meters above sea level. First developed in the 1930s, this ever-popular outdoor sports destination became the first ski resort in the world to install ski lifts soon after opened and is still considered to possess among the best single run ski runs in the world. Given the popularity of skiing and snowboarding here, in the summer the town is much less busy although it still attracts some tourists.

Bald Mountain is the primary ski area within Sun Valley, one of the largest in the world, with 19 ski lifts and a huge 75 runs of varying difficulty to keep skiers happy. Sun Valley Lodge is the epicenter of the town’s ski scene, including an adjacent resort sporting shops, restaurants and bars.

However, Sun Valley is not just about skiing. In the summer, the town offers a number of activities for visiting tourists including golf at an 18-hole course which will be extended to 27 holes in 2008. The area is also popular with hikers between May and September. Given its natural beauty and excellent ski conditions, Sun Valley has over the years become a major draw for the rich and famous, including writers and Hollywood actors from Ernest Hemingway to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
