Part of the People’s Republic of China, most of Southern Sichuan is covered by Liangshan. The state of Panzhihua is also here as well as areas such as Neijiang, Zigong and Luzhou.
Not many international visitors make it to Southern Sichuan, making it an ideal area for those who like to wander off the beaten path and discover new things. There are several small villages in this area of China, inhabited by a range of different people such as Tibetan, Han and Yi.
Although there isn’t a lot of vibrant nightlife in this part of Sichuan, what it loses in noise volume it more than makes up for in beauty. This is a good area for trekking and there are plenty of areas of pristine nature to explore, and Southern Sichuan is simply teeming with flowing rivers, mountains and charming traditional villages.
Although visitors won’t find many large hotels in this part of the world, there is plenty of home stay accommodation available. Those traveling through this region in the summer may also find it convenient to bring a tent and camp on the mountain slopes or in meadows.
Getting There & Away
Access is from the city of Chengdu in the north of Sichuan Province as it is connected to the rest of China and Asia by a large international airport and also a train station. Flights between Beijing and Chengdu take around 2 hours, 20 minutes. Most places in Southern Sichuan can be reached by bus from Chengdu in 12 hours or less.
