Situated in the province of East Nusa Tengarra in Indonesia, the Solor Archipelago consists of a number of sun-kissed tropical islands and crystal clear waters.
The most famous island in the region is Pulau Andonara and this is perhaps the best place to stay while exploring the Solor Archipelago. However, visitors should note that accommodation in this region tends to be rather basic as it is largely unknown to tourists at the current time.
Those who enjoy scuba diving and snorkeling will want to spend some time exploring the waters around the Solor Archipelago. A particularly good spot is the Strait of Alor, which separates the Solor Archipelago from the Alor Archipelago. With plenty of colorful coral and marine life to see, many visitors spend several days diving here.
A great way to explore the islands is by taking a boat trip. Public ferries also connect many of the area’s main islands and it is possible to explore alone. However, it is advisable to book a tour of the area that covers some of the smaller islands. Lasting for as long as three or four weeks, this offers visitors the chance to discover the Solor Archipelago’s wilderness.
Getting There & Away
Most visitors to the Solor Archipelago fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport, situated on Bali, just outside Denpasar. There are connecting flights to the airport on nearby Pulau Alor (60 minutes). It is then possible to take a ferry from the port of Kalabahi to Solor Archipelago (4 hours).
