Located in the hills in the northwest of Sukhothai Province, this park covers an area of just over 200 square kilometers and was designated a national park in 1981. It receives few visitors, so is an ideal place to escape the crowds of tourists at Sukhothai and spend a few days wandering nature trails.
The terrain is very rugged with hills ranging from 300 meters to 1,200 meters in height, and cliffs and waterfalls are common features. The most dramatic waterfall is Nam Tok Huai Sai Khao, which tumbles down into a deep pool about 3km from the park headquarters. Another attraction is the Thara Wasan Cave, just 1.5km from headquarters, where you can see some impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
Accommodation is in cozy bungalows that sleep between two and eight people and cost 600B-2,000B a night, set around a tidy lawn with a visitor center and restaurant nearby.
Getting There
There’s no public transport to the park, so you’ll need a rented vehicle. From Si Satchanalai, take Highway 1113 heading southwest, then turn right on to Highway 1294, which leads directly into the park.
