Situated in Yunnan Province, the sleepy town of Shiping is located 240kms from the vibrant city of Kunming.
A good way to see Shiping is by hiring a bicycle and cycling around the town, perhaps pausing to explore the local temple and sit beside the lake. Shiping certainly isn’t the liveliest place in Yunnan and few people stop here for more than an hour or two, perhaps while they wait for the next bus out of town.
However, Shiping’s close proximity to Kunming makes it a good place to spend the night. Many visitors simply pause here for an hour or two before heading to one of Yunnan’s vibrant cities.
Getting There & Away
Shiping is best reached from Kunming, where there is an international airport receiving flights from a number of international destinations as well as connecting flights from most major towns and cities in China. Buses regularly run from Kunming to Shiping (4 hours) as well as nearby cities such as Luzi and Gejui.
