Situated on the edge of the intriguing Tengger Desert, Shapotou appears at first glance to be little more than just another dusty Chinese town. However, there are some interesting amusements here.

Shapotou is a sort of playground for those who want to take a brief break from traveling and exploring. Thrill-seekers will want to try out the 1,000-meter long Yellow River Cableway Slide, which is the only one of its kind in China. There are also camel rides, bungy jumps, sand sleds and wall climbs for visitors to try.

This is also one of the sites of the mystical and fabled singing sands. Shapotou’s closeness to Zhengzhou makes it a good place to visit on a daytrip as there are plenty of places to stay and good restaurants in Zhengzhou.

Getting There & Away

Shapotou is located just under an hour from Zhengzhou, which has its own international airport. There are rail connections to Zhengzhou from Beijing (6 to 8 hours), and Shapotou is just a 45-minute bus ride away.
