Se Pian National Protected Area (NPA) is a protected area of Champasak Province, which lies in the extreme south of Laos, on the border with Vietnam. It is popular with eco-tourists owing to its remoteness and relatively untouched forest.
Se Pian NPA is one of the top protected areas in Laos and Southeast Asia at large, with its amazing line-up of habitats and animal species. Se Pian is particularly important for the wildlife that it supports, including a huge variety of mammalian and bird species. It is particularly celebrated for its Siamese crocodile population, which are a rarity in the wild in Southeast Asia nowadays.
The terrain is pretty rugged in Se Pian although nothing like the lofty Don Ampham NPA in nearby Attapeu Province]]. As a result, the trekking here is pretty good and you can also go elephant riding and wildlife spotting for the many rare bird species and the Siamese crocodile that call this area home.
Getting There & Away
Champasak is a few hours south of Pakse by bus although you can also get here by ferry boat along the Mekong; a far nicer experience. Se Pian NPA is along the China to Cambodia Route 13 and you’d be better off getting on a tour or hiring a motorbike to get here. Pakse International Airport is the gateway to the region.
