San Sebastian Travel Guide

Commonly referred to as the ‘Pearl of Cantabria’ and considered by many to be Spain’s most glamorous city, San Sebastian is a sophisticated seaside resort that enjoys stunning coastal and inland scenery as well as some fine old architecture and a solid tourist infrastructure which has a tendency to attract affluent and prestigious vacationers.

The city’s old quarter is a typical picturesque affair with narrow, cobblestone streets and fascinating old buildings. This is also the place to head for socialising as it’s here that the best of the city’s restaurants, bars and nightclubs can be found. The Parte Vieja as it’s locally known, has a definite ambiance of the romantic about it and is the perfect place for lovers to enjoy an evening stroll ahead of or after a candlelit dinner.

The resort is home to three beautiful beaches: Playa de Gros, Playa de la Concha and Ondaretta, of which la Concha is perhaps the finest and most scenic. All three beaches see their fair share of vacationers during the summer season; however, this is no respite for cheap package holiday makers and you’re unlikely to find the screaming masses disturbing your afternoon of tranquil sunbathing. For the best of the city’s nightlife, head for the beach promenade at La Concha, where a number of popular venues are located.
