The sleepy city of San Carlos is located in the province of Negros Occidental. Although pretty, this quiet community is not really geared up to receive tourists at this time.

Surrounded though it is by a number of interesting attractions, there is little to do in San Carlos itself and many travelers bypass it in favor of cities such as Bacolod, which is much more tourist-friendly. This could be a good option for those who want to get away from the tourist scene and discover a traditional Filipino community.

The people of San Carlos love to eat and there are a number of good restaurants in the area serving traditional home cooked meals. There are also a few comfortable places to stay for those who chose to spend the night.

Getting There & Away

The easiest way to get to San Carlos is from the new international airport at Silay, which takes about 2-hours. Bacolod also has a large airport with regular flights from Manila (1 hour) and is about 3-hour bus or jeepney ride away. Sipaway (Layumas Island) is less than 30 minutes away by banka boat.
