Situated on a high hill, most people visit the little village of Samboan for spectacular views of the area. This dusty suburb of Cebu is a good place to visit to take a break from the frantic pace of city life.
Although charming, there is not much here to entertain and it is perhaps best seen on a daytrip from Cebu. Wandering around the narrow streets will kill an hour or two, and the village is surrounded by pretty scenery. The community is mostly Christian and the 18th century church provides a focal point for daily life.
There are a few modest places to stay in Samboan and restaurants serving locally caught seafood prepared in traditional style. However, there is virtually no entertainment in the evening and most people go to bed early.
Getting There & Away
Samboan is just a 20-minute jeepney ride from the large city of Cebu, which has its own international airport with regular flights from Doha, Singapore and Tokyo. There are also connecting flights from other major cities in the Philippines such as Manila (90 minutes). Another good way to reach Cebu is by boat, and regular ferry services call at the city from all over the Philippines.
