Located high on the Bolaven plateau, Salavan province is located in the southeast area of Laos. Divided into eight districts, Salavan is the capital city.

This prehistoric site is also the home to the Phu Xieng Thong National Biodiversity Conservation Area. With the Mekong river to the west of the province, much of the area is dedicated to agricultural and farming activity. While the conservation area covers nearly 620 square miles of this area, it is thought that several wildlife creatures such as the banteng, Asiatic black bear, gibbon, tiger and Siamese crocodile all live throughout the land.

While not as popular a tourist destination as many of the other surrounding provinces of Laos, Salavan has a few nice lodging options for visitors passing through. The Tat Lo Lodge is quite popular with international tourists and travelers, as it has bungalows in the middle of the natural scenery.
