Orchid farms were some of the first attractions to open for tourists in the Mae Sa Valley, and while their popularity has declined in recent years (perhaps due to competing attractions), a visit to an orchid farm is still highly recommended.
Among the ones still open, Sainamphung, which is just off the main road near the Four Seasons Hotel, has one of the largest and most attractive displays.
Besides the hundreds of different orchids on show, there’s a souvenir shop where you can buy your own orchids to raise back home, as well as a restaurant where you can get a drink or a bite to eat.
Orchid lovers will go ga-ga over the gorgeous shapes and colors of some unusual species, but you don’t have to be a horticulturalist to appreciate a photo of a smiling face framed by such beautiful flowers. At just 40B per person, this is one of the best-value attractions in the valley.
Getting There
Follow H107 north of Chiang Mai through Mae Rim, then turn left on to H1096. After about 1km turn left (signposted to the Four Seasons Hotel), and you’ll find the farm after about 500 meters on your right. The nearest airport is in Chiang Mai.
