This national park lies to the southwest of Sukhothai Historical Park, and many ancient monuments have been discovered within its boundaries.
It is dominated by a mountain called Khao Luang, picturesquely described by the National Parks Department as “like a giant ant hill in the middle of a rice field”, with four separate peaks at about 1,200 meters of altitude. It is a popular destination among Thais for its fresh mountain air, but receives few foreign visitors.
Besides climbing Khao Luang, most visitors like to see Sai Rung Waterfall, which drops around 100 meters over a cliff on Khao Luang, and there are several nature trails winding around park headquarters. There are some large wooden bungalows available for rent, which sleep up to 6 people and cost 1,200B-1,800B a night, and there’s a restaurant here too.
