One of the smallest islands in the Togean archipelago, Pulau Bolilangga is part of a remote Indonesian region that rewards patient and dedicated travelers with some of the most secluded and idyllic beach holidays imaginable.
It would be possible to walk around Pulau Bolilangga if not for the jagged coral outcroppings that punctuate the shallow water in certain places. There was once a lone resort operating here, though it has shut its doors in recent years. Lunch is still served for visitors on a daytrip, as the resort is still occupied by the family that owned it.
Traveling from one of the neighboring islands to Pulau Bolilangga can be a fun experience, especially with the ‘ghost-town’ atmosphere at work. Boats can park offshore and let passengers take a snorkeling tour of the local coral gardens.
Everywhere in the Togean Islands, snorkeling and diving are favorite activities. Otherwise, there is plenty of time for swimming, relaxing on the beach and dining on fresh seafood.
Getting There & Away
Getting into the Togean Islands is no easy affair, a fact that keeps everything secluded. First fly from Jakarta’s international airport to Manado or Luwuk and charter onward transport to Ampana or Gorontalo (6 hours). Ferries depart from these cities for Wakai, a final leg of transport that can take anywhere from 10 to 15 hours. Once in the archipelago, it’s easy to charter a boat to Pulau Bolilangga.
