One of the many traditional craft villages that can be found on the outskirts of Denpasar, Puaya is sadly often overlooked by tourists. However, this village is a real bonus for those who are interested in watching talented craftsmen at work.

A large number of craftsmen can be found in Puaya and most of them specialize in making traditional leather puppets, with others creating puppets from old Chinese coins. Visitors are invited to watch the craftsmen at work without being crowded out by hordes of other visitors, and a number of shops sell the finished products.

There are some excellent restaurants in Puaya, all serving hearty portions of traditional cuisine. Those in search of a little sustenance will also find several coffee shops here, and relaxing with a cup of coffee while gazing at recently made purchases is a pleasant activity.

Visitors who wish to stay in the area will find a couple of decent hotels on the road to Puaya, where rooms are comfortable and prices are generally much lower than in the heart of the city.

Puaya is surrounded by natural beauty, making this an ideal city break. Those who enjoy cycling through the countryside will be able to travel to Puaya in less than an hour, and local buses complete the journey in a mere matter of minutes.
