Sitting 120 miles west of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country courtesy of its attractive body of water, the infamous Phewa Lake.
The area is surrounded by snow-capped Himalaya mountains which climb 7,000 meters in the space of less than 20 miles in the surrounding area. For many, the highlight is to row out on the lake in the early morning to take in the myriad reflections from the stunning scenery. In the vicinity of the town sits another quieter lake, Begnas Lake, and water falls. Given the terrain, this is also a good place to warm up and acclimatize ready for a more challenging trek in the proper mountains nearby.
