Located less than 500 miles from the capital, Phang Nga province sits within a mostly mountainous area and is blanketed in both evergreen and mangrove forests. Known as the land of tin mines and beautiful scenery, its eight districts offer numerous and distinct attractions for the traveler.
Ao Phang Nga National Park remains the most famous and most often visited of the region’s natural reserves. Unique rock formations rising out of the sea, sunken caverns and numerous islets make the park something of a geological marvel. The calm waters of the sheltered bay promote sea-canoe and kayak expeditions with several caves and caverns, each with its own ecosystem, available to view.
In addition, small islands of pristine beaches known for their incredible underwater scenery exist along the Andaman coast of Phang Nga province.
