This museum is located outside the city center, but is well worth visiting, particularly combined with a visit to the Mae Fah Luang Arts and Cultural Center, as they are in the same general direction and both focus on exhibits of Lanna or Northern Thai heritage.

The ‘oub kham’ in question is a golden bowl used by members of the royal family and is just one of many quirky artifacts such as royal court costumes that are on display here.

The collection was assembled by Julasak Suriyachai, a local art connoisseur who realized that most valuable historical items from the Lanna Kingdom are housed in museums abroad, so he founded the Lanna Heritage Society and began the collection which led to this museum.

The building in which the museum is housed is a striking example of Lanna architecture, adding greatly to the authenticity of the experience.

The museum is located about 2km northwest of the city center on the way to the Mae Fah Luang Arts and Cultural Center, at the junction of Ratchayotha and Nahkhai Roads. It’s rather difficult to find, so it’s best to hire the services of a tuk-tuk.
