The third class city of Oroquieta lies in western Mindanao below Lopez Jaena. It is a medium-sized town famed for its location on Iligan Bay and the associated plaza.

The main attraction of Oroquieta City is its setting on Iligan Bay, which itself boasts the Oroquieta City Public Plaza, one of the best in Northern Mindanao. Views from the plaza of the town and bay are superb and it’s also good for a picnic.

Not many tourists make it over to this side of Northern Mindanao, being mainly a coconut producing agricultural region of the island. Those visiting Mount Malindang National Park often make the effort to head over to Oroquieta, however. You can get in by flying to Dipolog from Manila and taking a bus across.

Getting There & Away

The de facto way of getting to Oroquieta is to fly to Dipolog (to the west) from Manila; from Dipolog buses andjeepneys run around to Oroquieta via Dapitan. Flight time from Manila is 90 minutes, with daily flights serviced by Philippine Airlines.
