The design of the French lighthouse is influenced by Moorish architecture and has served several purposes over the 20th century.

Originally built to track cargo ships on the Mekong, its fire has also been stoked to alarm the area during emergencies. Today, while only the shell of the lighthouse remains, a steep staircase of questionable safety has been erected so visitors can reach the top.

From the pinnacle, views of the winding Mekong can be seen: fishermen casting their nets and cars zooming by on the Kazuna bridge.

The lighthouse is located on the eastern bank of the Mekong River, opposite Kampong Cham town, and is accessable by crossing Spean Kazuna bridge by moto, tuk tuk, or horse cart. You can also walk from guesthouses in town if you desire to brave the heat.
