Ochheuteal Beach is the hot-spot of tourism development in Sihanoukville. The 3km long, arching stretch of white sand is lined with casuarina trees, though development is slowly replacing most coastal vegetation.
The northernmost end of the beach, known as Serendipity Beach, is where the majority of development has occurred. A mere 5-minute drive from sihanoukville-town, Serendipity Beach has its own little “town” on the hillside above the beach, where dozens of guesthouses, restaurants, shops, and bars lining both sides of the road that leads from Golden Lion traffic circle to the pier and the beach.
The pier marks the western end of Ochheuteal; to the east, a long, thin, white-sand beach extends several miles and features beachside bars and restaurants, one after another, with a walking path between the bars and the colorful and comfortable cushions and chairs that are set up directly on the sand. As you walk farther south the number of beachfront businesses thins out as you near the ‘undeveloped’ beachfront where a luxury hotel(s?) will soon be built.
To the west of the pier, along a new walking path that connects Ochheuteal to nearby Sokha Beach, are a number of cute seaside resorts, many of which have bungalows with balconies overlooking the water, though the coast here is rocky rather than sandy.
Serendipity Beach ‘town’, on the hill above the beach is where most of the scuba dive shops are located and is the primary location for booking trips to the islands and the resorts that are located there.
