Popular with local tourists, Ninh Chu Beach is one of Vietnam’s finest. It boasts a six mile crescent-shaped stretch of golden sand that’s ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
While it doesn’t have all the amenities of Western-style resort beaches found elsewhere in Vietnam, Ninh Chu is still a nice diversion for tourists. It is best visited midweek when you’ll have much of the coast to yourself. Domestic weekenders pour in on Friday evenings.
Given the local flavour of the beach, prices tend to run a little lower. Tourists can save on hotel rooms, tours and eating out, with plenty of options on hand.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the countryside here is the rock towers from the Champa kingdom. The Champa ruled this area for 1400 years and borrowed heavily from Indian culture.
For a more modern diversion, head to the Hoan Cau Resort. It is a theme park with rides and attractions that point to favorite folk stories from Vietnam. It targets a local audience but presents interesting people-watching opportunities.
Getting There & Away
The turnoff for Ninh Chu Beach is in Phan Rang. Turn southeast just before the bridge over the Cai River and continue on for four miles. The easiest way to get there from Phan Rang is by motorcycle taxi unless you’re driving a rental car. The nearest major airport is in Nha Trang, a 2 hours, 30 minute bus ride from Phan Rang.
