Ngapali Beach sits in Rakhine State of Myanmar, only four miles from the nearest town, Thandwe, also known as Sandoway. It is a pretty area of beach that stretches for two miles and attracts tourists and locals from all over the country.
There are many golf courses close to the beach as well as hotels and resorts with good restaurants and bars. The beach has only recently become popular after being promoted and the name Ngapali actually derives from the name of the Italian city of Naples.
The sandy beach looks out to a stunning part of the Indian Ocean and offers good swimming and is a fairly unspoiled place to relax. There is an airport in Thandwe that makes the beach easily accessible and the resort is a pleasant place to walk and chill out. There are a handful of places to eat and drink, mainly in the hotels that line the beach, and they provide a great place to sit and watch the world go by.
Getting There & Away
Ngapali Beach has an airport only four miles away in Thandwe and it welcomes daily flights from Myanmar’s main international gateway in Yangon. Akyab has a bigger airport, while many people choose to get a bus to Ngapali Beach from one of the larger towns, changing between buses and minivans along the way. The bus ride from Yangon to Ngapali Beach takes a lengthy 20 hours.
