Situated just a short train ride from the island of Kowloon, the New Territories is an interesting place to visit as it is full of natural beauty and rich culture as well as a deep rooted history.

Few visitors to Hong Kong take the time to explore the New Territories. However, there are plenty of interesting things to see and do and it is worth spending a day or two here, especially as it is easy to explore as there is plenty of public transport.

Nature lovers should head over to Pat Sin Leng Country Park and follow the Nam Cheung Country Trail. Filled with wildlife and offering stunning views of the area from atop high hills and mountains, this is a perfect place to escape the frantic pace of the city and breathe the fresh air.

The New Territories are a good place to discover rural Hong Kong life. There are numerous pretty villages to explore, where farming and fishing are the main forms of income as opposed to trading stocks and shares and selling merchandise. The New Towns are full of country charm, complete with plenty of decent restaurants.

Getting There & Away

Access is from Kowloon, which is a 20-minute MRT ride away. It is also possible to catch buses from several parts of Kowloon to the New Territories. Foreign visitors to this part of the world will probably arrive at the Hong Kong International Airport, which is situated on Chek Lap Kok Island. It is possible to take the Airport Express to Kowloon MRT (20 minutes) and then onward to the New Territories.
