Regarded as one of the premium art museums in Indonesia, or Southeast Asia for that matter, the Neka Art Museum was established in 1982, and displays some of the finest artwork Bali has to offer. It is one of several internationally recognized art institutions on the island of Bali.
There are a number of different collections found within the museum. Local displays are fascinating, and include works from various influences, such as Classical Puppet Style painting, Ubud Style painting, and a collection from the world-renowned Balinese artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.
Neka Art Museum also hosts several foreign exhibitions and more modern collections within the walls of the institution. These include the Art by Abroad Artists display and the Contemporary Indonesian Art and Contemporary Balinese Style Art shows. With so many displays on offer, visitors will need several hours to view and appreciate the posted pieces.
While visiting the museum, visitors will be able to easily navigate the halls and buildings as they are typically laid out using a historical format to make the collections easy to find. Today, there are more than 340 pieces of artwork on show within the Neka Art Museum, making it one of the largest in Bali.
The buildings that house each of the historical collections are also picturesque, designed as traditional Balinese style-structures. The museum is situated in the village of Kedewatan in the district of Ubud.
