Nestled among the redwoods and rocky canyons along the eastern flank of Mount Tamalpais, Mill Valley is one of San Francisco’s finest bedroom communities. Although it’s a mere 10-minute drive north of San Francisco, Mill Valley’s quiet, rural atmosphere is far from the urban bustle of the city. Small and artsy, there are plenty of galleries, coffee shops and cafés to warrant a visit if you’re in the Bay area.

When you cross the Golden Gate Bridge heading north from San Francisco, the first town you come to is Mill Valley. The compact and quaint downtown strip is an ideal place for leisurely window shopping and coffee sipping. Mill Valley is a very upscale place thanks to its quick, easy access to San Francisco and blend of wooded and coastal environments. But it has also developed into one of Marin County’s most popular art towns.

Dozens of galleries speckle the main street, showcasing both local and international artists of quality. Mill Valley is also a heavyweight in the performing arts category, hosting several theater companies at a number of excellent venues. Throughout the year, this charming town holds world famous festivals covering such subjects as theater, art, film, wine and food. There are also wonderful nature parks within easy striking distance of town where you can experience the Bay area’s amazing coastal and forest scenes.
