Michigan’s main entertainment, arts and automobile hub, Detroit is home to a number of tourist attractions. The Detroit Historical Museum unveils an interesting history of the city when it was only an Indian village that was later turned into a French trading post and is now a bustling industrial hub and art centre.

One of the reasons that exciting Motown is so famous is because of its association with music. Fans of old school R&B flock to Detroit to see where the first records of homegrown bands like the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5 and the Temptations were born. In fact, Detroit has been featured in so many movies associated with old school R&B and rock music including the teenaged star-clad Detroit Rock City that people tend to forget that Motown is actually short for ‘Motortown’, a moniker given to Detroit because it is home to several world-renowned cars including the magnificent Cadillac.

Lansing may be Michigan’s capital, but it is usually under the shadow of the more popular city of Detroit. However Lansing is quite pleasant with many parks, lakes and a few zoos for the children. Lansing is home to several official buildings including the grand Michigan Capital Building. The old town of Lansing boasts many swanky boutiques. If you don’t want to spend all your bucks on dazzling clothes and bags you might want to save this area for the last part of your trip. For fans of arts and music, Lansing has the some of the biggest festivals in Michigan.

The lovely Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan, boasts a pristine location on the Huron River. A cultural and educational centre, Ann Arbor is home to a large, vibrant student community. Several parks and gardens dot the city, providing visitors with many green spaces to relax in.
