Memot is a dusty, eastern Cambodian district capital is 80kms east of Kampong Cham city, close to the border with Vietnam. The town, known for its prehistoric ruins, is connected to Kratie and Kampong Cham by National Highway 7.
The main attraction in Memot is the memot-centre-for-archaeology, where the remains of the local Iron Age settlements are on display. There are also a handful of archaeological sites in the area that may be of interest to historians.
While there is no official international border crossing between Cambodia and the Vietnamese town of Tay Ninh, there is an official crossing 44kms southeast of Memot at Trapeang Phlong. Those who do visit Memot usually arrive by bus via Kratie or Kampong Cham.
