Situated on the west coast of the island of Bali in Indonesia, Medewi is a modest beach town often overlooked by visitors to the island.

Medewi is situated just to the east of Gilimanuk, which is the main port to the neighboring island of Java. Many visitors to Medewi come via Java, perhaps taking a few days to explore the island first. However, many travellers pass right by Medewi, unaware of the town’s beauty.

There are a number of pretty villages located in between Medewi and Gilimanuk. Hiring a bicycle is a great way to explore the area and there are plenty of interesting buildings and shrines to stop at along the way.

There are plenty of places to stay in Medewi, with beachfront accommodation offering spectacular sunset views. Fishing is the main industry here, and Medewi’s restaurants serve a delicious range of fresh seafood dishes prepared in both the traditional Balinese way and modified for Western tastes.

Getting There & Away

Medewi is a 3-hour bus ride from Ngurah Rai International Airport, which is situated near the city of Denpasar on Bali. Many visitors also arrive in Gilimanuk via ferry from Java (30 minutes) and then take a bus to Medewi from Gilimanuk (20 minutes).
