The combination of a white sand beach, spectacular sunsets and a provincial ambiance have made Matabungkay a popular holiday destination for tourists who are looking for an inexpensive trip to escape the hustle and bustle of Manila.
Located about 120kms from the capital, Matabungkay Beach has little to offer except for swimming and watching the sunset. There is a small coral reef in the heart of the cove which beautifully diverts the incoming waves, making it possible to body surf here.
Unlike many other beaches in the country, Matabungkay presents reasonable options for low-budget travelers. Those who wish to avoid costly restaurants can bring their BBQ sets to the beach or their rented open cottages, while others enjoy a typical Matabungkay way of picnicking on the shaded rafts floating off the shore that are rented out by the villagers.
Meanwhile well-heeled vacationers can select from various luxurious resorts along the beach strip.
Getting There & Away
Matabungkay is around 120kms from Manila, which has an international airport. Take the South Superhighway, exit at Silang or Santa Rosa, then turn right and follow the signpost to Tagaytay. From here, head to Nasugbu and turn right after Km 92 to Nasugbu and Lian. Turn left to Calatagan at the Shell station and follow the road until you see a big sign at the right side indicating Matabungkay beach resorts. Then turn right and drive up the cement road, at the end of which you will find your way without difficulty.
