Cambridge Travel Guide

Cambridge is the feisty and oftentimes naughty suburb of Boston and is home to Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Not only is Cambridge rich in history and culture as well as being one of the most acclaimed academic cities in the entire world, it is also a beautiful spot full of youthful energy and a hip flavor.

Situated just across the river from Boston, Cambridge (often referred to as ‘Boston’s Left Bank’), is a city of contrast. Here classic culture not only exists but it thrives as the city is packed with great sites including the world-renowned Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Athenaeum, the New England Conservatory of Music and the acclaimed Symphony Hall. However, the city has also adopted a trendy counter-culture as well as having embraced a multicultural way of life.

The Old Cambridge neighborhood is mostly residential and filled with buildings dating back four centuries. Brattle Street is the Longfellow National Historic Site and the former headquarters of General George Washington. The Harvard Square District is the social center for the young educated elite and is crawling with chic cafes, bookstores, and boutiques. This area is also a popular night spot with a dynamic energy uniquely its own. Here you will find bars and restaurants lining the historic streets, where you can catch a violin concerto as easily as you can catch a jazz show.
