Luomen in Gansu Province is mainly used as a gateway to the Water Curtain Thousand Buddha Caves and it is home to many strange rock formations.

Luomen is a bustling town that is often filled with the noise of everyday life from music playing and locals shouting to fruit and tea being sold on every corner. There are a few basic places to stay but there is not much in the way of choices of places to eat.

The town is rural yet always lively and the countryside is pretty with small streams and vegetation patches popping in the areas that surround the town. The Water Curtain Thousand Buddha Caves are only a 10-minute drive from the town and there are many types of local transportation to get there, with some keen hikers choosing to walk.

Taxi drivers and minivan drivers from Luomen often double up as tour guides for the caves that are home to many religious depictions, including the main attraction, a 31m high Buddha picture that has been painted onto the side of one of the huge cliffs.
