Luang Nam Tha is the provincial capital of the province of the same name. It is located in the far north of the country and shares a border with China and Myanmar and is also dissected by the Mekong River.
The town of Luang Nam Tha is home to stunning forests and beautiful nature trails. One of the main tourist attractions is the Nam Tha National Biodiversity Conservation area which is found just outside the town. It boasts pristine monsoon forest and hiking paths throughout.
The best way to reach the town is to drive. Once you are in Luang Nam Tha, it is possible to hire a bike or walk around the city. Walking will allow you to take in all of the sites and give you a much better insight into the daily lives of the local people.
Getting There & Away
Luang Nam Tha does not have its own airport or train station. The only way to reach the town is by bus, which is often uncomfortable as journeys from major cities in Laos are long and arduous. It takes approximately 10 hours to reach the town from Luang Prabang and the roads are in a very bad condition.
