The capital of the An Giang Province is hailed as southwestern Vietnam’s second most prosperous city but in reality is really just a sleepy little town with a handful of interesting sights.

Long Xuyen is located reasonably close to the larger and better known city of Chau Doc, making it a semi-worthy deviation for anyone looking to kill a bit of time before embarking on a long journey to one of the country’s more established tourist destinations.

A fairly impressive cathedral and some colonial architectural remain and a bustling local market is among the sights to see on a wander of the town. Beyond that there isn’t a great deal in the way of attractions, so this is a place suited to an overnight stop at the most.

Getting There & Away

Ho Chi Minh City hosts the nearest major airport to Long Xuyen; however, the remainder of the journey has to be made by road. From Ho Chi Minh City to Long Xuyen the bus journey takes 5 hours.
