Situated in Gatsu Province, the dusty town of Linxia only recently opened its doors to tourism and as yet, there is little to see or do here.

For some, the appeal of Linxia might be in traveling where few other tourists have ventured, although that soon wears thin. The town has a mostly Muslin community, which is unusual in China and perhaps holds interest for a few travelers. Visitors can take time to dine on Muslim cuisine and take a picture or two of the town’s magnificent mosques.

Linxia has two large bus stations at either end of the town, and is a good place to break up a long journey through this region of China. There are also places to spend the night if necessary.

Getting There & Away

The main way to get to Linxia is by bus from Lanzhou (2 to 4 hours). Lanzhou has its own airport just outside the city center, with connections to international airports such as Beijing and Shenyang. There are also onward buses from Linxia to places such as Xiahe (3 hours) and Xunhua (4 hours).
