Located on the picturesque Pulau Lembata in the Solar Archipelago, this traditional fishing village is actually the island’s capital, featuring an interesting blend of Catholic and Muslim buildings.

There isn’t a whole lot to see and do in Lewoleba, and many visitors to this region of Indonesia pass it by in order to visit some of the area’s beautiful beaches and tropical islands. However, many visitors to Pulau Lembata end up staying here as there are some interesting accommodation options.

The main source of income in Lewoleba is fishing, and this is a good place to try the local cuisine. Wander along the harbor in the evening to watch the sunset and visit one or two of the restaurants to sample a range of different seafood dishes and perhaps a glass or two of the local firewater.

Getting There & Away

Most visitors to Lewoleba arrive via the international airport near the city of Denpasar, Bali. There are onward flights from Denpasar to Pulau Alor (60 minutes). Once here, take a ferry from Kalabahi port to Pulau Lembata (4 hours).
