Situated less than 100kms to the south of Yangon, this is the closest beach resort to Myanmar’s capital city. Sadly, Letkhokkon Beach fails to live up to expectations and this is no tropical beach paradise.
Although most of Myanmar’s beaches feature crystal-clear water and powdery white sands, the Bago River flows into this area, turning it into a dark mud flat. Forget about sunset beach barbecues, finding decent, affordable food in this area can be rather challenging.
There is only one hotel in town which is licensed for foreigners, and needless to say this hotel is very expensive. Letkhokkon is difficult to visit on a day trip and most people bypass this beach resort in favor of more picturesque areas.
Getting There & Away
Tourists can only use the main airport at Yangon. There are regular buses to Letkhokkon from the large bus station in Yangon (about 4 hours). The best way to get here is by hiring a car or motorbike in Yangon, which cuts the travel time down to a little over 2 hours, making it possible to visit on a daytrip.
