Placed in the southwestern part of the Sichuan Basin and surrounded by Mt Wuyou and Mt Lingyun, Leshan is a popular tourist resort renowned as a city of major attractions, particularly Leshan Giant Buddha and Mt Emei scenic areas.
Located 31kms east of the city sits the world-famous Leshan Giant Buddha, which is carved into the river cliff face of Mt Lingyun and has been included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites. Begun in 713 and finished in 803 AD, it took over 90 years to carve this colossal statue that measures 71 meters in height, with three-meter long fingers and 28-meter wide shoulders each matching the size of a basketball playground.

There are four scenic regions; Baoguo Temple, Qingyin Pavilion and Wannian Temple as well as Golden Summit from where you can experience four spectacles; Sunrise, Buddha Rays, Cloud Sea and Saint Lamps. Between November and March, the excellent Mt Emei Ski Resort caters for those who fancy winter sports.
