Lembar is an okay place to spend some time at although it doesn’t have much going for it. It is a small coastal town in southwest Lombok to the south of the capital, Mataram.

Lembar is a boat town with a small harbor and comes with one or two quiet, well-shaded beaches. Buginese schooners inhabit the port where passenger ferries also come and go, and trips out to nearby islands from here are popular. Boat trips to Gili Genting Island are a favorite with divers although visibility is not great. Gili Nanggu is another popular island with a lovely beach.

Surrounding the town is quite nice scenery and a hilly terrain, especially in the far southwest of Lombok. There is a pretty Balinese temple near to Mount Pengsong, which is not far from Lembar, as well as the pottery village of Banyu Mulek.

Getting There & Away

Mataram has a small airport - Selaparang Airport - which receives flights from Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali. It is an hour away from Lembar. The airport also receives flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore with Merpati. You can also get to Lembar by boat from the port on Bali, 80kms to the west.
