Set on the west bank of the Jialing River in the north of Sichuan Province, the 2,300-year-old ancient town of Langzhong is listed among China’s four famous old towns and is beautifully surrounded by mountains and rivers.

For over 2,000 years, Langzhong has been the throat of the road of Sichuan. It used to be the capital city of the Ba Kingdom until the Qin wiped out the kingdom in the 2nd century BC. At the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty in the mid-17th century, Langzhong was the provisional capital of Sichuan for 17 years.

Along the bluestone pavements, you will locate various noble residences such as Beijing’s courtyards and Beijing’s hutongs, as well as complexes of Ming and Qing dynasties plus a few structures of Tang and Song style. Scenic spots in Langzhong include the Big Buddha Temple, Zhangfei Temple, Five Dragon Temple, Jinpingshan Scenic Area, Tengwang Pavilion Scenic Area, and the lovely Wanglong Lake.

Getting There & Away

Nanchong Airport operates flights from Beijing and Guangzhou; the flight time from Beijing is 2 hours, 40 minutes. Trains from Chengdu to Nanchong Railway Station depart every 2 hours and take about 2 hours and there are also express buses from Chengdu to Nanchong, with the journey taking about 2 hours. From central Nanchong, it is around 1 hour, 30 minutes by bus to Langzhong.
