Kuta Beach on the Indonesian island of Lombok is the most famous beach on the island and draws visitors with its postcard perfect scenery and amazing surfing.
It shares its name with a popular beach on sister island Bali, which is only a short boat or plane journey away. Similar in its offerings to that on Bali, the beach is great for keen surfers as the swells are feisty from the waves reacting with the underwater coral reefs.
Its name derives from a legend that a princess named Mandalika was unable to choose who she should marry and she turned herself into sea worms to avoid making the decision and wiggled into the sea off Kuta Beach. Whatever the story is behind the beach, it is a picturesque attraction on Lombok and not to be missed.
There are many beach bars and local restaurants lined up at the back of the beach and they can get busy in the evenings at sunset when many locals and tourists congregate on Kuta Beach to watch the sun go down with some food and drink.
