Densely populated, the island of Kowloon is a pretty place to spend some time for those taking the time to explore the outlying islands around Hong Kong.

Most tourists head straight to Tsim Sha Tsui, which has a wide range of accommodation and eateries to suit all budgets. Those who like to shop will want to check out Mong Kok, which is located in the northern part of Kowloon. Here, upscale shops jostle for position alongside chaotic market places and street stalls.

There are plenty of tourist attractions on Kowloon and it is easy to spend several days here. One of the most spectacular sights is the Symphony of Lights, which is a vibrant light show that takes place on either side of the harbor at 20:00 each evening. The Hong Kong Space Museum is also worth a visit, while those interested in the unique culture and history of this part of the world should take a trip to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Movie lovers will want to take a stroll down the Avenue of the Stars, which is Hong Kong’s answer to the Hollywood walk of fame. Graced with a statue of Bruce Lee as well as imprints of numerous celebrities, the atmosphere here is very lively. When sightseeing becomes a little draining, visitors can stop for afternoon tea at one of the island’s top hotels before visiting charming temples such as the pretty Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple.

Tourists who want to appreciate the island’s spectacular views should climb to the top of Lion Rock. A spectacular way to see the island from a different point of view and make some memories is by taking a helicopter from Hong Kong International Airport to the landing pad located on the rooftop of the Peninsula Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Prices on Kowloon tend to be significantly cheaper than in many parts of Hong Kong and the surrounding islands, making it a great place to spend some time and use as a base to explore this area of the world.
