Koh Nhek (Kaôh Nhêk) is a quiet Cambodian riverside town on the Sre Pok River in Koh Nhek district, 100 miles north of Sen Monorom; situated in one of the most remote and unpopulated areas of Cambodia, it is best known as the place you stop half way between Sen Monorom and Ban Lung during your epic motorbike adventure.

Koh Nhek market is fun to wander around of an evening to go eating and shopping for kitsch souvenirs.

Koh Nhek is very remote, lying between Ban Lung and Sen Monorom on Route 141, a dirt track that really isn’t much of a road. It is best to travel here via Ban Lung, which in itself is a long bus journey from Phnom Penh via Stung Treng. You will then need to take local transport to Koh Nhek from Ban Lung (during the dry season).

  • What to do: Walk along the Sre Pok River, shop in the local market, head to “nearby” Ban Lung or Sen Monorom.
  • Best time to go: visit Koh Nhek in the December through March dry season and avoid the wet season at all costs as the roads in and out are horrific.
  • How long? A day or two is enough to enjoy Koh Nhek fully.
