Ko Lanta National Marine Park can be found on Ko Lanta’s southernmost tip and covers an area of over 50 square miles. The park was opened in 1990 and its twin coves and picturesque lighthouse make this area one of the most visited in the region.

The coral reefs are particularly fertile in Ko Lanta National Marine Park and attract tuna and jacks as well as the more impressive grey reef sharks and barracuda. The park is one of the world’s best places to spot a whale shark, which also adds to the area’s popularity. Those into snorkeling, swimming and hiking will also be impressed with the offerings.

The headquarters for the park are located on Laem Tanod, which is home to great jungle trekking and a lovely beach. There are a handful of sea gypsies left in the park who make a simple living off the fruits of the sea. The islands are made up from steep limestone crags, sandy beaches, jungle and mangroves, which make the marine park a natural paradise.
