Kersik Tua is a remote village in West Sumatra Province, central Sumatra. It is the chief base point for visits to nearby Kerinci Seblat National Park and specifically, the lofty Mount Kerinci.
Kersik Tua is the main center for picking up provisions before heading out for a climb of the 3,800m Mount Kerinci (Gunung Kerinci). Serious hikers start from Kersik Tua and spend a few days trekking to the mountain summit and back. Views from Mount Kerinci are startling, with a green landscape full of tea plantations below.
Mount Kerinci base camp is around four or five hours on foot from the entrance of Kerinci Seblat National Park. Also within reach of Kersik Tua are the Mount Tujuh Lakes, which are accessible by bus from Plompek village. The lakes sit at 2,000m and are good for swimming and relaxing.
Kersik Tua village itself has a range of guest houses and lodges for visitors along with shops and cafés.
Getting There & Away
The nearest major airport to Kersik Tua is Padang’s Minangkabau International Airport, a 1 hour, 30 minute flight from Jakarta’s international airport. Buses provide access to Kersik Tua from Padang in around 7 hours.
