Jiuhua Shan (Mount Jiuhua) is a sizeable mountain in southern Anhui Province. It is famed for its many temples and peaks and there is a whole community up there.
There are 99 peaks in all on Jiuhua Shan, along with many ridges, cliffs, caves and waterfalls. The so-called Heavenly Terrace (Tiantai) peak is the most revered and resides at 1,342m above sea level. You can get to it by hiking, along with Sky Pillar (Tianzhu), Lotus Flower (Lianhua), and Ten Kings (Shiwang) peaks.
Jiuhua Street (Lotus Buddhist Country) resides on the mountain at an altitude of about 600m and comes with a string of temples. There are even some hotels, shops, and restaurants along Jiuhua Street and you can trek from here right the way up Heavenly Terrace Peak.
Temples to look out for on Jiuhua Shan include: Baisuigong, Ganlu, Zhiyuan, Huacheng, and Zhuhai.
Getting There & Away
Nanjing Lukou International Airport is the nearest major airport to Jiuhua Shan, a 240km or 4-hour journey away. Hefei Airport is a little closer but receives fewer connections than Nanjing. Nanjing is a 2-hour flight from Hong Kong. Direct buses run from Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Hefei to Jiuhua Shan.
